World social media day is celebrated every year on the 30th of June, the day is to help highlight how the social media world emerged as a key tool for communication.

Social media enables us to make connections from all over the world, to help influencers and businesses grow their brands and assisting journalists to cover breaking news events, social media has changed the way we live.

As social media has grown in popularity, so has the scrutiny. Social media platforms face controversy surrounding their use of data, impact on mental health, election results, hate speech and fake news. Now more so than ever, social media platforms are under more pressure to be transparent with what goes on behind the scenes.

Our very own digital marketing executive uses social media on the regular here at Project Start, Jasmin has her very own thoughts surrounding this particular day…

Social media has helped me evolve digitally in the world of marketing and with my role here at Project Start, when I first landed the job trying to explain to my family what my role consists of was a struggle (I still don’t think they get it now)…

But I LOVE working in the social media world for many reasons:

  • The possibility to inspire others to engage with the company socials and posts
  • I love seeing people come together and creating a community feel from what I post
  • Daily opportunities, not every day is the same and it gives me the chance to learn something new every day and take on new ideas/views
